Please note February 3, 2012:

We have purchased a brand new home in Henderson, NV (a suburb on the southeast of Las Vegas). I will try to get internet service established at the new place right away but will possibly be off-line for a couple of days. I am taking one of the rooms for my shop, which will allow for good climate control for my dies. I will hopefully be back up and running around February 22. The best way to contact me will be with e-mail on my Contact Page, or my cell phone 765-461-7359. One point, if you leave a message on my voice mail all I get is your message and not your number, so if you want a call back please put your number in your message so I can get back with you.

I currently have 2,6
00 bullets in inventory. I currently have in stock: 1600 - 66gr FB, 100 - 68gr BT, 400 - 80gr BT, 100 - 85gr FB, 400 - 85gr BT. I'll keep this list current as I sell from it, so if it's on this list, please go ahead and order, otherwise I hope to be back up and making more inventory in a few weeks.

Upcoming additional caliber for 2012:

I have decided to add 6.5mm bullets to my line. Made with the long range competition shooter in mind, they will be very high BC with closed up meplats, made in Detsch carbide dies with thick wall J4 jackets. This project will take about a year to get set up, so please check here for updates as to the progress.

Welcome:

You have discovered the site where you can buy the finest, most accurate, world-class precision 6mm (.243) custom bench rest, long range & varmint bullets on the market! I make bullets only. This is not loaded ammunition! Please note that because of several reasons, I ship my products ONLY to USA addresses. If something may be worked out to pick an order up within the USA feel free to contact me. Call me at 765-461-7359 or use my Contact page to email me.

These are the bullets you want when 0.001" makes the difference between winning or losing the competition! I carefully HAND MAKE each bullet one at a time in my shop in Henderson, NV, USA. I get to know the inside and outside of every bullet PERSONALLY...no robotics nor conveyor belts here! My bullets go through a thorough quality control process. My bullets are:

  • Hand-inspected
  • Passed through Detsch carbide dies
  • Ultrasonically cleaned
  • Measured with Mitutoyo digital micrometer accurate to 0.00005"
  • Measured with Brown and Sharpe digital calipers
  • Weighed with electronic scales

My attention to detail is a big reason behind the extreme quality of my world-class bullets. Of course, using Detsch carbide dies that are dead nuts perfect doesn't hurt either! Most custom bullet makers only make two or three bullet designs, while I offer you 34 designs for practically any barrel twist rate made! These things are what sets Precision Ballistics LLC apart from all the rest!

All bullets in a box are + .15gr. or less. I offer, and try to keep available at all times, several hundred to a thousand of each of the following 34 designs, all in precision, match quality, 6mm bullets. Unless delays in getting lead or copper arise, I can usually ship your order within a day or two of your order! My cores which are prepared in advance in multiple thousands for each size bullet, are all squirted to very specific weights, based on the average weights of the J4 jackets. Various lots of jackets sometimes weigh differently, which makes the weight of my finished bullets a bit light or heavy, but all bullets in a box, or lot number will weigh the same as the rest of the bullets in that box or lot. It would be nice to be able to adjust the core weight to correspond with the jacket weight when they come, but that simply is not practical.

My die maker, Dave Detsch, has outdone himself once again on my VLD dies! They are dead nuts concentric! They produce a tangent ogive of 15, with a rebated boat tail of 10 degrees by 0.17500". The pressure ring is 0.24350".  I close all of my VLD meplats to a sharp point, around 0.01500", which requires an extra step, using my Hoover pointing die for extremely small groups on paper at very long distances! My HVLDs are built using standard J4 jackets, while my TVLDs will be built using thick wall J4 jackets. This requires special retooling because of the internal diameter of these special jackets, and won't be available until the retooling is complete.

Precision bullets depend upon consistency, concentricity and cleanliness. Those are the hallmarks of Precision Ballistics LLC. My reputation demands that you receive the most precise bullets that I can provide, to allow you to shoot the tightest groups you can! Most shooters are able to shoot sub 1/4 MOA with my bullets! I hand-swage 6mm (.243) precision bench rest bullets to serious competition shooters who insist on the most precise projectiles available.

Bryan Litz, Chief Ballistician at Berger Bullets, and author of Applied Ballistics For Long Range Shooting, has tested the ballistic coefficient (BC) of my VLD bullets, which have been included in the second edition of his book. The G1 BC is listed as a comparison with other bullet manufacturers, and is a lighter color, but the G7 BC should be used to calculate bullet drop at various ranges, based on the shape of my VLDs. As I build my bullets one at a time by hand, and there are no micrometer marks on my dies, the size of the meplat opening may vary a thousandth or two from lot to lot, which may effect the BC by a thousandth or two. The important thing is that the BC of each bullet in the box is the same or extremely close.  My Hunting VLDs have closed tips and are build with standard J4 jackets. My Target VLDs have closed tips and are built with thick wall J4 jackets. Both my HVLDs and TVLDs share the same specifications and therefore have the same BC data. I should add that the data below is based upon the bullet samples which I sent Bryan last year. Since then, I have been able to close the meplats up from the 0.045" which were on the ones I sent Bryan, to 0.015", which I would think would raise my BCs at least some.

A view of the Production area in my last shop in AZ. Better benches, better storage, better heating, and triple workspace! Core cutting and storage for jackets, cores and finished inventory is in another area of my shop. I'll post a pictur of my new shop in Nevada after it is set up.

About Me:

It is Precision Ballistics' mission to design and HAND-swage the most precise world-class 6mm custom bullets possible for the bench rest shooting community. Precision Ballistics LLC, at 765-461-7359, is a company manufacturing precision custom bench rest bullets. I have been shooting and reloading for over 30 years. My desire to manufacture precision bullets has now been realized by establishing this firm. Precision Ballistics LLC is a one person enterprise which allows me to have total control over the quality control of my products. I manufacture and QC each bullet one at a time by HAND.  I make them like I would want them made if I bought them. Please order in advance so you will have plenty for the whole season.

Hi! My name is Don Lahr, and I'm known as "Bughole" on various shooting forums. I build custom 6mm bullets, one at a time BY HAND, in numerous styles from 66gr through 115gr, with either a flat base, short boat tail or long boat tail. They have a dual radius 6/9 dual radius tangent ogive or a 15 tangent ogive. Within the next few months I will also offer them in a straight 8 tangent ogive. I will also be offering bullets in 70gr and 100gr this spring. My next long range project is to add 6.5mm bullets to my line.
I plan on rolling these out during 2012.

I like to shoot my 6mmBR at 100, 200, 300, 400, 500 and 600 yards. I'm looking forward to trying my hand at 1000 yards at the Boulder City range near my new place. At 100 yards I shoot at a sheet of printer paper with 20 yellow 5/8" targets per page, which I make on my computer (example of one such target below). In case you're wondering why I didn't hit the center of the target in the picture, I adjust my windage and elevation just a little off of the 1/8" black center dot to allow me to maintain my point of aim (POA). In this case I want my point of aim and point of impact to be just a little bit different. Once you shoot away your POA it is harder to have a precise POI. Here is one where I put five bullets through the same hole,  which measured 0.292" at the widest. Subtract 0.243" for the diameter of the bullets shot, and you get a 0.049" group. You may be able to beat this one. Try my bullets and see what you can do with them!

Company history:

Precision Ballistics LLC grew from my desire to have a more perfect bullet available for bench rest and varmint shooting. I enjoy shooting at bench rest matches, as well as the VHA Jamboree, the Midwest Regional VHA Match, Eastern Regional VHA Match and the Western PA Long Range Groundhog Match. Since moving to Nevada, I now look forward to competing at the western matches. Varmint hunters require a high level of accuracy and precision as well as bench rest shooters, and dead-on long-range shooting is now possible with my bullets. My target bullets are also very "Fur-Friendly!" Whether you require light weight bullets for your 1:14" twist 6mm rifle, mid-weight bullets for your 1:12" or 1:10" twist 6mm rifle, or heavy bullets for your 1:8" twist or 1:7" twist 6mm rifle, Precision Ballistics LLC can provide the bullets you need. I now produce VLD design bullets in 90gr, 95gr, 100gr, 103gr, 105gr, 108gr, 113gr and 115gr.

Samples:

To obtain samples of my bullets as well as other brands, please contact my friend, Phil Benbow at 765-664-8074. Visit his site at www.BulletSamples.com. You may also email him at BulletSamples@gmail.com. Phil buys full boxes of bullets and breaks them up to sell you however many you want for testing. If you aren't sure which design or size works best for your rifle, buy a small amount of different bullets. Weigh, measure and shoot them to compare my hand made, custom bullets with mass produced, commercial brands. This way you won't be stuck with hundreds of bullets you don't want, and you'll know what works best for your application. If you prefer mine, I'll gladly build your order boxed in 100s, with price breaks for orders for 500 or 1000.
